What's so funny, Ethan?

Don't worry about this kid having fun!  Sorry about my camera skills, but I was busy dancing to "Old MacDonald!" (On a related note, I may have just figured out how to drop this baby weight...)

Four Fantastic Months!

Ethan is four months old today and really starting to get a hang of this thing called life.  I can't believe how fast they really grow - he has already started to outgrow some of his cute newborn tendencies, but they have been replaced by new, equally adorable behaviors.  It's fun to see a little personality start to emerge.  He loves to laugh and that smile is going to help him get away with anything and everything.

The biggest change from last month is that he is now sleeping in his nursery and in his CRIB!  He was starting to outgrow the Rock-n-Play (his feet hang over the edge!) and I was starting to fear we were going to send him to college in that thing.  I wasn't sure how I was going to get him used to vast, open space of the crib - but help came along in the form of a magician named Merlin.  No, seriously, there is something called a Magic Merlin Sleep Suit and it is truly magic.  It's this huge puffy coat (a la Randy from A Christmas Story) and it is supposed to "induce sleep."  I was weary to spend $50 on such a gimmick, but when Isis had their store closing sale, I got one 60% off.  Now I'm thinking about buying stock in it!  To him, it feels like he's in one big cuddle all night long, plus it's so puffy that he can't startle himself and wake up.  It's magic.

We have developed a really nice routine for ourselves.  We start the day with coffee (mommy) and play mat time (Ethan).  We read books and sing songs - his favorite books are The Little Blue Truck and Moo, Baa, La La La - his favorite KID songs are "The Wheels on the Bus" and "The Noble Duke of York".  The first hours of the day are the best.  He is all smiles and laughter.  He takes a good solid nap and I actually get to shower and put on makeup.  We made a new friend in the neighborhood - 3 month old Parker whose mom is also a teacher - and have play dates with him during the week.  We joined two different baby groups that each meet once a week and have made some friends in each.  We've gotten together outside of the groups to have coffee, lunch, and walk the mall.  It's so nice to hang out with people who actually care about what size diaper your kid is in!  Ethan doesn't like tummy time so much at home, but he loves it in the play groups - he likes looking at the other babies!  He is learning baby sign language (yes, really) and thinks the parachute is simply amazing.  We went from trying to figure out what to do to fill the day, to having too many plans and wanting to stay home and do nothing!

Ethan has his 4 month checkup later this week and we're anxious to find out how much he weighs - it was 15 lbs. when he went for a sick visit a few weeks ago (turns out he wasn't sick - just on a hunger strike for a couple of days!)  He's already grown out of 3-6 month clothing and even though his closet was full to the brim before he was born, he is actually in need of some new clothes now because he grew so fast!

Hopefully I'll have some time to post more in the next month.  I have cute videos that need uploading!  There just always seems to be something higher on the to-do list whenever I actually get a break.  Until next time...
